We're Joe & Del, "The Wine Couple", and we moved to the county for one reason: the wine! We found many other things here since we've moved (like the food, arts and the friendliness of the people) but we remain committed to our love of the wine!
We hope to have every winery on this site and have the most extensive list of every wine in the county! Search for your favorite wine or winery using the search bar at the top left of this page and feel free to leave comments on the site. Your fellow wine lovers will appreciate the feedback ... ENJOY!
Our Port is a first in the county. Spicy black raspberry and cassis dominate the nose with red licorice and cedar. Round and full on the mouth with rich ripe fruit and a lingering finish.
A nose of apricot, pear, rhubarb and persimmon with a hint of cinnamon. Flavours explode in the mouth with peach, cotton candy, spice and good acidity. The upfront sweetness is balanced by the acidity which yields a clean finish.
Our 2008 Merlot was picked December 5th, almost six weeks later than usual. This additional hang time has yielded a wine with an inky deep garnet colour. The nose unveils intense cherry and black olives with a hint of coco and nutmeg. Rich and jammy this wine portrays new world fruit with old world complexity and structure. A reserved use of Canadian Oak leads to a long finish.
VQA Ontario VQA - Quintus is a unique blend of five old world varietals; Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Our blend of Prince Edward County and Niagara fruit creates a captivating garnet hue with an inky black tint. The aromas are of floral, dark fruit, cassis, tobacco, earth and a hint of dark chocolate. This complexity translates seamlessly on the palate with balanced acidity and a lingering finish.
VQA Prince Edward County VQA - Cabernet Franc is a variety that works well in the Hillier terroir. Ours exhibits a nose of blackcurrant, tobacco, and chocolate. It has balanced acidity and fine tannins which will enhance its ageability. Intense fruit on the palate gives way to a long finish with hints of leather and black pepper.
The flagship wine of Argentina is a very unusual varietal for Ontario. This wine elicits a more delicate style than its Argentinean cousin. It boasts a spicy nose with upfront vanilla, pepper, licorice, cigar box, plum and hints of cedar with ripe red berry, cloves and eucalyptus on the palate. Rich with a medium weight, this wine finishes with soft tannins and a good balance.
The nose is strawberry-sweet with rhubarb, cherry and candy apple. The flavour is just as enticing, exuding flavours such as strawberry, citrus with a spicy finish and a hint of cinnamon.
Our Riesling has an intense citrus pear nose with hints of lilac and flint. On the palate, a touch of upfront sweetness gives way to mouth watering key lime and melons. Steely minerality leads to a long finish.
Rich and full in the mouth, this wine delivers pears and citrus on the nose with a palate of peaches and honey. A subtle use of new French and Canadian oak, a strong backbone of acidity and minerality creates a food friendly wine.

Karlo Estates is located in the hub of the exciting new wine region of Prince Edward County ("The County"). Its 93 rolling acres of Burgundian soil straddle the regions of Wellington and Hillier. You will find it on historic Danforth Road, built in 1799. (Yes, the same Danforth famous for Greek food in Toronto.)
Ideally situated close to the shores of Lake Ontario, Karlo Estates enjoys the lake's moderating effects to alleviate Canada's harsh winters and hot summers. The soil, made up of limestone and the famous Hillier clay, closely resembles the celebrated soil of the Burgundy region of France. With latitude similar to Burgundy as well, the County's Karlo Estates promises to produce great Canadian Wines with a distinctive terroir.
Karlo Estates undertook its first planting of grapes in the spring of 2006. The initial varietals planned for Karlo Estates terroir where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Frontenac for the reds; and Pinot Gris, Riesling and Chardonnay Musque for the whites where also planted.
We hope you enjoy our artisan wines. Thanks to limestone soils, hand crafting and low yeilds, expect delicate complexity in a lighter weight with a refined texture.
Karlo Estates joins the pionering spirit to offer 100% premium Canadian wines in beautiful Prince Edward County. We are dedicated to bring you wine with character.
